Hey lovely readers!
Here’s a book review for you. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author, so thank you so much Tijan for the opportunity!
“There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.
The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.
I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.
He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.
Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.
Then I met him.
He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder. Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.
Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.
Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.”
I have read pretty much every Tijan book, because of that I’d feel pretty confident in guessing how this book was going to go. And that wouldn’t have been a bad thing, because I love absolutely everything she writes. But nope! The one thing you think you know for sure ends up getting turned on its head and I freaking loved it. Books that surprise you are truly the best, because I feel like that doesn’t happen very often, and this book delivered spectacularly!
So obviously this book is mafia centered, which means there’s going to be a fair bit of violence. Maybe there’s some fights, maybe a little murder, some betrayal, and a lot of bodyguards. But all of that really just adds to the story of Kai and Riley. I absolutely love the way Tijan writes her main characters. They always support each other, they build each other up, they have each other’s backs. And Riley and Kai are no exception. Their relationship actually made me laugh out loud a few times, because these two are so honest about how much they “hate” each other. Obviously they don’t really, but their always sort of like “hey, mess with me and I’ll kill you”.
I read this book in basically one sitting. I started it at like 8pm one night, stayed up until 1am, woke up at 9 the next day and finished within an hour haha. This book just takes you there, it’s not afraid to go dark and dangerous, and you’re kind of just along for the ride!
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
