Blogtober (Day 26) Book Review – The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker

Hey lovely readers!

Here’s a book review for you. I’m seriously in love! I totally missed a day yesterday, but such is life haha

The Simple Wild“Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla’s father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at twenty-six, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it’s time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born.
She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional—dear God—outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can’t help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah—the quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father’s charter plane company operational—can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. And he’s clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she’s too pampered to handle the wild.
Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it’s replaced by friendship—or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried—and failed at—years ago. It’s a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.”

This book is amazing, that is all. No, but seriously I’m in love with this book and I’ve now read it twice in like a 5 day period haha. I want to thank the two lovely ladies who recommended this gem to me. I’ve been in a romance reading slump and so many people gave me recs on Twitter. But this is my favorite!

This story was so good. It’s basically Calla going to rural Alaska to visit her estranged father. She finds out he’s sick and decides to be there for him. Here’s the thing, this book is so much more than a romance. It’s a story about self discovery, it’s a story about forgiveness, it’s a story about falling in love with the wild. I was not expecting so many feels with this book, I was expecting a typical romance. But like I said it’s so much more. I fell in love with Calla, even though she was so annoying at first haha. I fell in love with Alaska Wild, I fell in love with the beautiful Alaskan scenery, and of course with Jonah.

So Calla goes to Alaska fulling expecting to hate it, to hate her father, and to hate the asshole pilot who picks her up from the airport. Enter Jonah, AKA the best book boyfriend on the planet. He completely tells it like it is, he calls Calla out on all her crap, and he even lays into Calla’s dad for how he’s treating her. He’s open; he’s honest, he’s realistic. Everything he did or said in the book I was like, “yes boy keep talking” haha I just think this was such a unique book. It focused so much on Calla’s experiences and her father’s illness. It made me happy, it made me sad, it made me proud. I cried, I laughed, I was angry, I yelled. This book was everything. Go read it now!

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
