Hey lovely readers!
Today’s post is a book review of Ten Reasons to Stay by Candace Knoebel. Thank you so much to Inkslinger PR for providing me with an e-ARC.
“One day a week—Thursdays—my husband and I could do whatever or whomever we pleased.
Protection was non-negotiable.
And no matter what, we had to be home by midnight.
Jack was the one who wanted an open marriage, but we were supposed to keep things simple. No strings. No commitments. It seemed so easy… until it wasn’t.
Devilishly handsome Cole Blackwater was only supposed to be a fling, but everything about him made me feel alive. Wanted. Seen. When I realized he was my husband’s boss, I should have broken things off right then… but I didn’t.
One day a week, I could pretend that I was his and he was mine… until Cole wanted more.”
So here’s my not so dirty secret: I really love books with cheating. Or really any topic that isn’t pretty. I like books with angst and heartbreak and ugliness, because that’s real life. It’s not always sunshine and roses and I love when books push me outside my comfort zone. This book did exactly that.
Corinne is shocked when her husband asks for an open marriage one night a week, she’s hurt and humiliated. And at first she doesn’t want to do it. But she relents because she hopes it will save her marriage. This alone broke my heart. This book really makes you look at marriage in such an interesting light. How much is too much to give of ourselves? When is it OK to say enough is enough? I just absolutely loved the struggles painted in this book. Both Corinne and Cole go in to their “relationship” knowing it won’t be more than it is. And yet it turns into something more.
And then there’s Jack, who I instantly wanted to hate because he was the one suggesting the open marriage. But I couldn’t help but feel sympathetic for him as well. I think that was the best thing about this book. It makes you question things, it makes you view love in a different way. Sometimes the person you love isn’t the best thing for you. And it takes a strong person to know when to walk away ❤ This author is new to me, but I’m absolutely in love with her writing and I’m excited for the next book in the duet!
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
