Let's Talk – Lessons I've Learned From Blogging

Hey lovely readers!

Today’s post is another discussion topic. I was inspired by a recent conversation with a fellow blogger and by the positivity challenge floating around Twitter. And so I want to talk about some of the things I’ve learned from starting my blog.

  1. First and most important lesson: running a blog requires hard work and dedication. Not that I didn’t realize this when I started blogging, but I never really understood how much time it would take.
  2. You need to be active on social media, promote your blog and put yourself out there. People aren’t just going to magically come to you.
  3. You have to say no once in awhile. Don’t join very review group you find, don’t accept all the ARCs or free products. You’ll only end up stressed and bogged down by books and things you don’t actually like.
  4. News flash! If you don’t like a book, you DON’T HAVE TO FINISH IT! Yes even if it was an ARC!
  5. If you get a review request for a book you’re not interested in you don’t have to respond. I mean you totally can, but most likely the author won’t notice. Chances are you are one of many that the request was sent to.
  6. Your blog stats will fluctuate all the time. Some weeks you’ll have hundreds of views, some weeks only tens. That doesn’t mean people have lost interest.
  7. All bloggers grow at their own pace and that’s okay.
  8. The number of blog followers you have is not related to how popular and successful your blog is.
  9. Sometimes social media is a better tool for blogging than your actual blog.
  10. Don’t be afraid to be different. You don’t have to stick to one topic to blog about. Branch out, come up with an idea for your blog that’s unique to you. People will love it!
  11. Do what’s best for you. Don’t think that because other bloggers do something that you have to as well. Example: I never do monthly TBRs or Wrap-ups and I’m good with that 🙂
  12. The people you meet from blogging will become some of your best friends, lean on them. Ask them for advice, give them advice, be there, be supportive. It doesn’t matter if you ever meet them in person. They are still some of the greatest friends you will ever have.
  13. Passion matters, people notice it and they like it. Don’t be afraid to show your passion to the world.
  14. And finally, always have fun with what you’re doing. Remember why you started blogging in the first place and keep that in the back of your mind. Never forget your love for books or whatever you choose to blog about remember that your words matter!

What are some lessons you’ve learned from blogging?

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna

My name is Adrianna. I'm a 26 year old wife, book lover, and librarian. I have a deep love for books and an unhealthy obsession with iced tea! I can quote almost any Disney movie, Belle is my favorite Disney princess, and I live for Harry Potter! I enjoy reading New Adult Romance above anything else. I have 5 cats and 1 dog who are basically my world (along with hubby of course)! And when I'm not reading I enjoy writing, puzzling, trivia, and long walks with the hubs and dog! Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy!

  1. Love love love this post! Great advice. I think when we all first started out we pretty much just thought you write a blog post and that’s it, done. But that’s so far from what it actually is… there’s so much more to it that’s all-encompassing. It can be stressful at times but usually it is a wonderful experience.
