Book Review – The Matchmaker's Replacement (Matchmaker #2) by Rachel Van Dyken

Hey lovely readers!

Today’s post is a book review of The Matchmaker’s Replacement by Rachel Van Dyken

29068220“Wingman rule number two: never reveal how much you want them.
Lex hates Gabi. Gabi hates Lex. But, hey, at least the hate is mutual, right? All Lex has to do is survive the next few weeks training Gabi in all the ways of Wingmen Inc. and then he can be done with her. But now that they have to work together, the sexual tension and fighting is off the charts. He isn’t sure if he wants to strangle her or throw her against the nearest sturdy table and have his way with her.
But Gabi has a secret, something she’s keeping from not just her best friend but her nemesis too. Lines are blurred as Lex becomes less the villain she’s always painted him to be…and starts turning into something more. Gabi has always hated the way she’s been just a little bit attracted to him—no computer-science major should have that nice of a body or look that good in glasses—but “Lex Luthor” is an evil womanizer. He’s dangerous. Gabi should stay far, far away.
Then again, she’s always wanted a little danger.”

Another great book from Rachel Van Dyken, who by the way I get to meet at Apollycon in March 2019! Ahhhhhhhh! Cannot contain my joy!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Okay done fangirling, now for the awesomeness that is this book. It follows Lex and Gabi who were secondary characters in the first Matchmaker’s book. And this time we get an enemies to lovers romance. So let’s start with the characters.

Gabi, I just love Gabi the most out of all the characters. Mainly because both in this book and the first one she refuses to take any of Ian’s shit. Plus I always love it when books have guy girl friendships with zero romantic interest. It can be done people, it can be done! I feel for Gabi so much in this book because of the crap she has to deal with in her personal life, apart from Lex. I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say that she is incredibly selfless in this book. I love that she acknowledges her feelings for Lex even though he infuriates her. In the end I think their relationship was just so adorable. And watching Gabi learn the ropes for Wingmen Inc. was so fun!

As for Lex, he’s obviously a player, but a nerdy one and that’s totally fun! I like that in all of Rachel’s books her characters break the mold in some way. That makes them so much more relate-able to me. Lex in this book was kind of perfect. Everything he did for Gabi was so sweet and unexpected given his personality. He was kind of an ass sometimes, but nothing out of the ordinary for these two! Also, their sexy times scenes were just so amazing! Oh and of course the way Lex and Gabi deal with her slime ball ex, OMG best freaking thing ever. Funniest scene I have ever read in a romance book.

The one and only thing that annoyed me in this book was Ian. He is so overprotective of Gabi, which I didn’t really get. I mean yes they’re best friends and of course he wants her to be safe. But I sometimes felt that he went a bit over the top. Especially with how he expected Lex to treat Gabi. I mean yes Lex is kind of a man slut, but I would think that Ian could see he wouldn’t disrespect Gabi in any way. But that’s just me! 🙂 Either way I really loved this book and I’m excited to see the Passionflix movie! Now excuse me while I go read everything else that Rachel has written 😉

Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! ❤ Adrianna
