Favorite Literary Heroines

Hey lovely readers!

So today’s post is all about my favorite literary heroines. My favorite kick-ass female characters in books. The characters that I can identify with the most, the ones that touched my show, that literally saved and changed my life. The ones I keep close to my heart and will always defend <3 Recognize their amazing-ness and beauty. Okay lets get started!

Hermione Granger – Harry Potter

hermione.jpegThe first girl that I read about in a book and said, “hey that’s me.” She made me feel less alone. She’s smart, beautiful, fierce, brave, sassy. And yet at times shy, unsure, scared, and insecure. And most of all, she loves her books. She taught me that it was okay to be myself, a sassy, nerdy, smart book worm <3

Best quote:  “Mudblood and proud of it.” Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Elizabeth Bennet – Pride & Prejudice

lizzyb_400x400I mean seriously, Lizzie is everything. She’s proud in the best way and she gives zero fucks about what other people think. And the best thing about her? She admits when she’s wrong. Yes she judged, yes she assumed. But when all was aid and done she did the right thing, she refused to be told what to do and she went after her man!

Best quote: “Vanity, not love, has been my folly.” ― Pride and Prejudice

Feyre – A Court of Thorns and Roses

17927395I’m not even sure where to start with Feyre. Because well she’s just amazing. I won’t say much because I’m actually writing a post dedicated entirely to my feelings about Feyre. But I will say a few things. She’s strong and fierce. And I just love the person she turns into, caring, regal, forgiving, and so deeply in love it hurts.

Best quote:  “I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal. I was a survivor, and I was strong. I would not be weak, or helpless again. I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.” – A Court of Mist and Fury

Elphaba – Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

wickedI think she is so underrated in the book world. She endures a terrible childhood and when she tries to fit in nothing good comes of it. Yes she does some pretty bad things, but in the end her intentions were always good. I think she’s such a good example of the way society can tear you down. Yet through everything she stays true to herself, no matter what it costs her.

Best quote (conversation with Fiyero) – “I know this: The wickedness of men is that their power breeds stupidity and blindness,” she said.
“And of women?”
“Women are weaker, but their weakness is full of cunning and an equally rigid moral certainty. Since their arena is smaller, their capacity for real damage is less alarming. Though being more intimate they are the more treacherous.”
– Wicked

Tessa – The Infernal Devices

tidThe very definition of beauty. I love her so much I want to name my daughter after her some day. <3 She is one of the most classy, powerful, and brave girls in literature. I have such admiration for how she carries herself through all the crap she has to endure. And despite all of that she remains strong and true.

Best quote: “You know that feeling,” she said, “when you are reading a book, and you know that it is going to be a tragedy; you can feel the cold and darkness coming, see the net drawing tight around the characters who live and breathe on the pages. But you are tied to the story as if being dragged behind a carriage and you cannot let go or turn the course aside.” – Clockwork Princess

Ginny Weasley – Harry Potter

ginnyOkay total truth: I actually love Ginny the most out of all other HP characters. She’s just quietly strong. Always fighting on the sidelines and in the shadows. The strength she exhibits throughout the entire series just amazes me. Time and time again she has to sit back when the action takes place, but when the time comes she’s a total bad-ass. Plus I’e always loved her romance with Harry. It’s like a given, you know they’re supposed to be together.

Best quote: “I never really gave up on you. Not really. I always hoped… Hermione told me to get on with life, maybe go out with some other people, relax a bit around you, because I never used to be able to talk if you were in the room, remember? And she thought you might take a bit more notice if I was a bit more — myself.”— Half Blood Prince

Jane – Big Little Lies

Big_Little_Lies_CoverFrom reading the book and watching the show, I saw a bit of myself in Jane. I feel like she’s overshadowed by the other women in the story and she needs some recognition. Attacked and left feeling broken, she moves forward and manages to raise her son in the process. I think she is kind of amazing for the fact that after her rape she comes out the other side stronger. It takes some time, but eventually she finds peace. And after what she went through that’s quite remarkable.

Best quote: “It’s because a woman’s entire self-worth rests on her looks,” said Jane. “That’s why. It’s because we live in a beauty-obsessed society where the most important thing a woman can do is make herself attractive to men.” – Big Little Lies

Sydney – Bloodlines

Bloodlines_NovelMy favorite book heroine. Sydney is everything I ever really wanted to be. And from where she is when we first meet her to where she is when the series ends is just amazing. She struggles with prejudice, an asshole father, an eating disorder, anxiety, and body image issues. She never feels beautiful or that she enough for anyone. Yet she’s quietly brilliant and beautiful without ever really trying to be. And even though she has her own issues she does everything she can to help Adrian realize who he can be. And that’s the true beauty of Sydney. She’s entirely selfless, and through that selflessness her beauty shines through.

Best quote: “Whatever logic and reason I normally possessed had melted away. There was nothing but flesh and fire left, and I wasn’t going to lie to myself—at least not tonight.” – Indigo Spell

That’s it guys! I hope you enjoyed this one!

  1. Oooh, these are all totally awesome choices! I think all of the ones you mention (at least, the ones I’ve read about) are totally fierce and strong in their individual ways. Great post!

  2. That’s a wonderful list… Hermione would be on top for me too… 😊😊 and I love that u included Tessa and Sydney …

  3. That’s a great list!
I have to say that I really appreciate that Sydney is in it because she’s although not a “flashy” heroine (Hermione isn’t either), that sexy ass-kicking super-witty sort of protagonist, she’s no less deserving of the title of heroine. I love authors who show different types of strength and character like in the VA/Bloodlines series.

I really really need to reread The Infernal Devices, you made me miss Tessa!

    1. I’m so glad you liked it! And yes that’s what I love about Sydney, she’s so quietly awesome! Yes re-read TID. I am soon ☺

  4. Loved this post!!! Such an imaging idea 🙂
And the choices were great, I honestly love all of them 🙂 (at least the ones I’ve known before)… ❤️
