Hey lovely readers!
Today’s post is a book review of The Matchmaker’s Playbook by Rachel Van Dyken
“Wingman rule number one: don’t fall for a client.
After a career-ending accident, former NFL recruit Ian Hunter is back on campus—and he’s ready to get his new game on. As one of the masterminds behind Wingmen, Inc., a successful and secretive word-of-mouth dating service, he’s putting his extensive skills with women to work for the lovelorn. But when Blake Olson requests the services of Wingmen, Inc., Ian may have landed his most hopeless client yet.
From her frumpy athletic gear to her unfortunate choice of footwear, Blake is going to need a miracle if she wants to land her crush. At least with a professional matchmaker by her side she has a fighting chance. Ian knows that his advice and a makeover can turn Blake into another successful match. But as Blake begins the transformation from hot mess to smokin’ hot, Ian realizes he’s in danger of breaking his cardinal rule.…”
Okay complete honest here, new favorite romance ever! Like seriously guys I’ve read and re=read this like three times in the past few days no joke. This book is just so much fun. Plus it’s told entirely from a male POV which I have never read before. And I also loved the feel of the characters, this book is set in college, but the characters just seemed older. I’m not sure why I liked that so much, but it just really fit with the story. There were just so many things about this book that I loved. Let’s get to the characters!
So like I said this book is told entirely from a male point of view, which I loved! I’m looking for more like that now! Ian is your typical player, bad boy, I know I’m hot guy. But the premise just makes him really stand out. He helps girls get guys to notice them , love it! However the biggest draw for me with Ian was that he was so normal and fun. What I mean by that is Ian had crap parents and they died when he was young, but he was not defined by that. So many romance books have characters with tragic pasts and it pretty much defines them and their interactions with other characters. But Ian was not like that at all. He likes his life, he’s happy, he does have some regrets, but other than that he’s just a well rounded guy. It was just so refreshing.
There are three sort of side characters in this book. One is Ian’s love interest, and then his guy best friend and girl best friend. Again the love interest has lost someone close to her, but it does not define her character, ugh I love it! The best friends hate each other and it’s so fun to read their banter and arguing. Rachel’s books are so funny and full of wit and sarcasm. I literally read this in a few hours it was that good, And bonus! Passionflix has made this book into a movie and it was so good! I mean it’s low budget indie, but it was totally adorable! You can find it here. Seriously I am now obsessed with Rachel and her books. I’m on my fourth read of hers already. Definitely give this book a try!
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! <3 Adrianna
