Hey lovely readers!
Today’s post is a book review of Endgame by Chloe Walsh.
If you follow me on Twitter then you probably already know how much I adore Chloe and her books. She has written I believe 18 books and I have read each one several times over and I only discovered her books in January 2017! The woman is an amazing writer and a truly beautiful person. So if you haven’t read her books you absolutely need to! And she has an amazing Facebook group called Chloe’s Clovers that is full of such fun amazing ladies! Okay I’m done gushing, let’s get to the review!
“My name is Mercy James, and I’ve always had a three-point plan:
Get through senior year with the best possible grades. Get a full-ride scholarship through college. Get the hell away from my irresponsible single mother.
I didn’t think this was too much to ask for and I worked damn hard to make it a reality.
For years, everything went according to plan. Sure, I was dragged through several different schools and towns since the age of ten by my emotionally stunted mother, but I was almost there, dammit. I was on the verge of starting senior year in high school and my final year of this plan…
Until my mother went and did the unthinkable! She only went and got herself knocked up by a man who lives on the other side of the country! Worse than getting pregnant, mom married the douche. As if it wasn’t bad enough to uproot my entire life a week before senior year, Mom’s new husband, Gabe Owens, comes with baggage. A sweet stepsister, Amelia. And the b*stard of all b*stards, Rourke.
Rourke is my age and doesn’t want me in his town, much less his home. He’s also hell bent on making sure I know it. Thing is, I don’t want to be there either, and if Rourke Owens expects me to swan in and kiss his ass to make him like me, then he has another thing coming.
I’m nobody’s bitch and he’s about to learn that.”
So here’s the thing about Chloe, she’s the queen of romantic angst! And this book is no exception. Rourke and Mercy cannot stand each other and yet they have amazing chemistry! What I love about this book and all of Chloe’s books in general is that they are honest. They are truthful and gritty and so realistic. I mean where do I start? Rourke is your typical alpha male on the outside. He’s a total asshole, he’s incredibly hot, and he has a lot of money. But on the inside he just wants someone to see who he really is. He lost his mother at a young age, his father’s never around, and he blames himself for so many things beyond his control.
As for Mercy, I freaking love her! She is so tough and strong, especially when she’s dealing with Rourke’s crap. Whenever he does something to her she fights right back! She has been through a lot thanks to her mother and more often than not it’s her who has to be the responsible adult. The last thing she needs is Rourke treating her badly. But when we get to know more about these two we understand why they both act as they do. Rourke drove me crazy throughout most of the book! I just wanted to scream at him to stop acting so stupid and man up where Mercy was concerned. And then with Mercy I just wanted her to let Rourke in, to let him take care of each other.
I absolutely adore these two together, they’re kind of perfect. This book made me feel so many emotions. I laughed, I cried, I was angry, I was hurt. I really enjoyed watching the characters grow and change as they became closer to each other. This book is also fun, funny, and really refreshing! Seriously you will love this book! Chloe Walsh is a truly amazing author and if you aren’t reading her books you are missing out! This was a recent re-read, but initially I gave this a 5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads and I would absolutely read it again and again! (Obviously!)
Thanks for reading guys! Talk to you soon! <3 Adrianna
